I read an interesting article which talks about technology being possible better than real life events. This kind of goes with my topic about technology replacing human contact for management. Have a look and let me know what you think. The author does a great job and examining different sides of the story.
My feeling after reading the article that perhaps technology will never be able to replace that face-to-face contact with all of it's subtle nuances. Have any of you ever had a situation where you felt technology would replace your human interaction?

Its an interesting article. But i would agree that technology could never replace face to face contact. Yes, we have a ton of great ways to communicate in business today but you cant read someone's body language over the phone or via email. Its important to put a face with a voice in order to create a more personal relationship. I also feel that if someone has met you they are more likely to respect you more than if you only spoke via phone or email or another form of communication.
ReplyDeleteEven though I love my 46 inch LCD television i still love to get the experience of a live sporting event. I have heard some great things about the new TV's coming out but I agree with the author that nothing replaces being in a stadium with 60000 screaming fans cheering on your team.
Now, speaking from a personal level, there are many times I would prefer to watch a sports game/concert/etc on TV than actually go to the event. Although, that may be my slight aversion toward crowds of people or traffic talking.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel as though technology will completely replace human interaction. It is similar to the discussion presented in last week's class. There are some industries where it may replace the human touch, but not all.
Look as how email has changed businesses. Instead of holding a meeting to discuss a new policy being released, it is done by way of mass email. Some of this may have to do with globalization.
Nothing (yet anyway) will replace actually being at a sports game or shaking someone's hand.
I found another article that looks at this angle from both sides.. http://qctimes.com/news/local/article_c9e8a104-f42d-11de-a58d-001cc4c03286.html
